The Heritage Services Department of the Geraldton Regional Library has been in operation since the 1970’s. Over most of this time, the primary objective of the Department has been to collect, organise and maintain materials relating to the Greater Geraldton area and the Mid West Region.
However, in recent years, the role of this department has expanded to include a broader range of services. These services offer a diverse means of celebrating, promoting and preserving local heritage, including oral history projects, publishing, the digitising of our photographic collection and free provision of access to popular genealogy websites and other online resources.
This includes the Library playing a key role in the co-ordination of Heritage Services in the wider local community, liaising with government and non-government agencies, businesses, community groups and individuals to assist in the development and implementation of strategies which value and support heritage matters.
