The heritage listed St George's Building at the corner of Marine Terrace and Cathedral Avenue was constructed in 1910 for the Anglican Diocesan Trustees and is one of Geraldton's notable surviving historic buildings.
Over the past 110 years there have been many occupants of the two storey building including a bank, dental surgery, solicitors office, MacRobertson Millers Airline, the Corner Surf Shop, barber shop and tobacconist, insurance and travel agency, the Wise Owl Library and Tearooms, income tax agency, tailor, ladies drapers,, fashion boutique, offices for the Bishop of North West Australia and a motor cycle parts business.
The contractor was James John Jenner and the building originally had a bullnose verandah above the footpath which many years later was demolished along with other shopfront verandas along Marine Terrace.
During the buildings long life interior illumination changed from kerosene lamps to gas lamps and finally electric light while the ground floor shop fronts periodically were upgraded.
