Geraldton Regional Library have welcomed an enchanting mural to the Youth Zone this week that is sure to charm youngsters utilising the space.
Andrew Frazer’s latest creation takes inspiration from Geraldton’s windswept landscape and the excitement of finding new literature.
City of Greater Geraldton Mayor Shane Van Styn said it was a fantastic transformation.
“Andrew’s mural is very eye-catching and I’m sure it will attract even more youngsters to the already popular Youth Zone at the Library,” he said.
“Literature allows you to visit and explore other worlds, so it is fitting to have artwork in there that symbolises dreaming, storytelling and transportation.”
Multidisciplinary artist Andrew Frazer is no stranger to transforming spaces, having worked on a number of large scale murals in the CBDs of Bunbury and Armadale.
Young people aged 12 to 18 also got to attend an Illustration and Lettering Workshop facilitated by Mr Frazer where they created their own imagination-filled character, a hand letter book cover as well as learnt about the fundamentals of drawing, how to communicate emotion through details, scale, composition and creating a narrative through multiple illustrations.
In the evenings, Mr Frazer presented his popular Art and Business and Hand Lettering Workshops to eager audiences at the Geraldton Regional Art Gallery.
The transformation of the Geraldton Regional Library’s Youth Zone and workshops was made possible by the City of Greater Geraldton with generous support from The Geraldton Project.
