Big Sky Readers and Writers Festival 2024 lineup announced

A stellar lineup of writers and story tellers will descend on Geraldton this October when Big Sky Readers and Writers Festival returns. 

Now in its 19th year the theme for this year’s Big Sky is “Power of Expression” and will include sessions for all ages as well as events in Walkaway, Greenough and Northampton. 

City of Greater Geraldton Mayor Jerry Clune is thrilled to see the return of the popular festival.

“Big Sky Readers and Writers Festival always lives up to the hype and I am sure this year will be no different,” he said.

“With a lineup featuring a huge variety of authors there is something for all those who love a good yarn.

“I urge everyone to embrace this year’s program and make the most being able to interact with such an engaging array of story tellers.”

Big Sky 2024 special guest line-up includes:

  • Yumna Kassab - Parramatta-based novelist and short fiction writer who made the Miles Franklin Literary Award shortlist in 2023
  • Chris Hammer - International bestselling mystery and crime writer 
  • Tess Woods - WA romance novelist 
  • Jake Dennis - Poet, actor, jazz musician
  • Gabriel Evans - Picture book author and illustrator, adult workshops 

Big Sky highlights to look out for this year include Kids Sunday Funday at the Geraldton Regional Library, as well as the return of Poetry in the Pub at Walkaway along with a Literary Lunch and author visit to both Greenough and Northampton. 

In celebration of the Midwest’s fishing industry a special local history night “Cray Tales Revisited” has also been included in this year’s program. 

Big Sky 2024 will also feature sessions with Sally Herzfeld (Gare), Sue Boyd, Theona Councillor, Annie de Monchaux, David Whish-Wilson, Caitlin Maling, Deborah Pike, Gabriel Evans, George Criddle, Denise Pepper and Glenn B. Swift.

A special thanks goes out to the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries and Lotterywest without whom this event would not be possible.

Big Sky Readers and Writer Festival 2024 will officially kick off on Thursday 10 October and conclude on Sunday 13 October, further ticket information will be released in the coming weeks.
