The Geraldton Public Library opened in July 1968 next to the Council buildings in Cathedral Avenue. It became a Regional Library in 1979, providing advice and support to 26 Libraries throughout the Mid -West Region.

Due to the expansion of its services, collection and clientele base, by 2008 the Library had outgrown its premises and was looking for a new space which could accommodate the needs of technology and services. In 2010, the Library moved to its new premises at 37 Marine Terrace, the site of a former supermarket.

Outreach Services offers a wide variety of materials to residents living in assisted living, skilled nursing and retirement facilities and to those who are still living in their homes. Outreach staff select materials tailored to the participant's preferences and interests.

Alternatively, the Library can make a small collection of items available from which participants can make their selection.  The service is undertaken on a set schedule occurring every four weeks.
