Book Club Guidelines
The Chapter Bay Book Club program is for library patrons who would like to lead or join their own book club across the Mid West Libraries Consortium area.
Overview:
- Groups wishing to get together to share their love of reading with others are invited to form a Club and nominate a Group Coordinator. Existing Book Clubs are also very welcome to join.
- Each group can have up to 10 members with a suggested minimum of 6. Each Book Club member is also encouraged to be a member of either the Geraldton or Mullewa Libraries, or one of our partner Libraries in the Mid West Libraries Consortium.
- Fees: $240 (including GST) annually for membership and administration per Club.
- Clubs organise their own venues.
- Your fees are used to support the purchase of New Book Club sets. Up to 10 kits each year will be available to each group. Book Club members are encouraged to suggest new titles up to 2 titles per 12 months through the purchase suggestion form on our website. The Library will also maintain a collection Pre-Loved Book Club sets which will be available for both Paid and Free Memberships.
- Create a membership through the Register link on our website. Or alternatively, complete a hard copy Membership Form and send to library@cgg.wa.gov.au
Membership
- The Chapter Bay Book Club is only available to Clubs based in the Midwest and Gascoyne areas of WA.
- For non-library members joining is easy: simply visit your local library and provide proof of current residential address. Or alternatively, complete an online membership form.
- There are two types of membership – Paid and Free.
- Each Club is recommended to have up to 10 members. A Coordinator must be nominated and will be responsible for liaising with the library.
- For Paid Memberships, the Coordinator is also responsible for collecting annual membership fees, ensuring that all Book Club members have paid their fees and making the membership payment to the City of Greater Geraldton. An invoice will be raised and sent to the Coordinator for the annual membership fee.
- Book sets can be collected from the Geraldton or Mullewa Library.
- For Book Clubs outside of the City of Greater Geraldton, sets can be posted to your Consortium Member Shire Library. In this instance, it remains the responsibility of each Book Club to cover the return postage cost of the set to Geraldton.
- If a Club wishes to have more than 10 members, they are responsible for locating additional copies of the books.
Membership Entitlements
- Members of the Chapter Bay Book Club are entitled to borrow up to 10 kits per year.
- Book Clubs with Paid Memberships can suggest up to 2 titles per year. The funds raised through membership fees will help to finance additional Book Club kits. The Library will also maintain Pre-Loved Book Club sets which will be available for both Paid and Free Memberships.
- New titles can be suggested or reserved when visiting the Library or online via website.
- Book Club Kits comprise 10 copies of the same title, together with background notes and discussion questions. Book Club kits are issued under one club membership card, which will be issued to the nominated Coordinator upon registration and payment of Book Club membership fees.
Terms and Conditions
- Completion of the registration form binds all members to the Chapter Bay Book Club Guidelines.
- Registration fees are not refundable. Please ensure you have familiarised yourself with the list of Book Club titles and understood the terms and conditions of the Book Club Guidelines.
- While the Library will endeavour to supply all titles suggested, this will be subject to availability and cannot be guaranteed. Responsibility for the final selection of titles lies with the Geraldton Regional Library in line with Collection Management policies.
How to Borrow
Loan Period
- The Loan period for Book Club kits is 6 weeks. Book Club kits must be returned on time by the due date with all titles intact.
- If Book Club members have not finished reading their designated book by the end of the loan period and wish to do so, they may be able to extend the set if there are no other reservation on the title.
Late, Damaged or Lost Books
- The nominated Book Club Coordinator is responsible for following up any late books. If books have been lost or damaged, full replacement cost must be paid before the next Book Club kit is issued.
- In the event of lost or damaged books, Book Club members should notify their Coordinator as soon as possible so appropriate arrangements can be made. When a book is lost the Coordinator will inform the member of the cost of replacing the book.
- Please return kits promptly, even if an item is damaged.
