Endeavour Replica

The Endeavour replica is a precise replica of the original tall ship captained by Lieutenant James Cook on his 1768-1771 voyage to discover Australia. The laying of the keel of the Endeavour replica, took place in 1988. She was then launched in 1993, before being commissioned in 1994. The ship does not employ any modern conveniences such as winches or colour-coded lines to make setting the sails easier. The only modernisations are those required by law, such as engines, GPS, satellite phones, showers and a modern galley. The Endeavour replica is a Registered Australian Ship and complies with the high survey requirements of the Australian Maritime Safety Authority.

The original Endeavour is known as one of the most famous ships in history due to its epic voyage in which her commander, Lieutenant James Cook, and several scientists observed the transit of Venus from Tahiti and explored the vastness of the southern Pacific Ocean. They then went on to circumnavigate New Zealand and chart the east coast of Australia, claiming it in the name of King George III of England.
