Twenty-one years of literary excellence will be celebrated this October as the Big Sky Readers and Writers Festival returns with a stellar line-up of acclaimed authors, artists, storytellers and presenters.
Officially kicking off Friday 23 October, this year's theme, “Future Forward”, will explore stories, ideas and creativity that inspire audiences to look ahead while reflecting on the experiences and perspectives that shape our community.
City of Greater Geraldton Mayor Jerry Clune paid tribute to the shortlisted writers for the Big Sky Short Story Prize and praised the festival’s ongoing role in nurturing cultural connection.
"Big Sky has become a much-anticipated event on Geraldton's cultural calendar and we're delighted to once again welcome such an outstanding line-up of guests," he said.
“Congratulations to all those that entered the Big Sky Short Story Prize, particularly those that made the shortlist.
"This festival provides a unique opportunity to engage with authors and celebrate the power of storytelling. Places are limited, so I urge everyone to secure tickets whilst you can.
“In addition to author talks and workshops I encourage those who love a good murder mystery to join us for the Cluedunnit party at The Geraldton Club which promises an evening of intrigue and suspense,” added Mayor Clune.
The shortlisted authors for the Big Sky Short Story Prize 2026 are Sarah Phillips, Natalie Browning, Courtney Evans, Matilda Scotney, Marc Christoffersen and J.S. Brooks, with the winner to be announced at the Festival opening night.
Big Sky Readers and Writers Festival will run from Friday 23 October – Sunday 25 October thanks to event partners Lotterywest and the State Library of Western Australia.
