Dongara-Port Denison
The towns of Dongara-Port Denison make up an idyllic and peaceful coastal retreat with beautiful beaches, heritage buildings and nature trails. The two towns are divided by the picturesque Irwin River. Dongara-Port Denison is home to the last Drive-in movie theatre operating in Western Australia (opened in the 1960s). This drive-in, screens new release movies every second Saturday night from October until May, and regularly during school holidays. Dongara-Port Denison is also home to the Illegal Tender Rum Company and their award-winning rum.
Some other attractions include Southerly’s Harbour View Restaurant, the Dongara Tavern, the Irwin River Estuary and Boardwalk and the main street shaded by enormous Moreton Bay Fig Trees. The four kilometre Dongara Heritage Walk highlights 28 heritage buildings, including the Royal Flour Mill built in 1894, Priory Lodge, the Old Police Station built in 1870, and Russ Cottage. For many, Dongara-Port Denison is a favourite holiday destination with a storied past.
