Jim Trevaskis
Local identity, Jim Trevaskis, was born in Perth in 1928, and married Helen McIntyre in 1951. After teaching in various country towns, he came to Geraldton in 1956, where he took the position of Senior Master of English at Geraldton Senior High School. Jim decided he would like to be headmaster of Geraldton Senior High School, and after several stints as headmaster of schools in Donnybrook, Bullsbrook and Margaret River, he became principal of Geraldton Senior High School in 1968.
In 1979, Jim took eleven school children on a long trek from Kalbarri to Geraldton along with Brother Trevor Gibbons and Stan Gratte. They followed the journey taken by explorer George Grey in 1839 and crossed the Chapman River 160 years after Grey did so. In his later years, Jim has interviewed many locals for the Oral History project at Geraldton Regional Library and has been heavily involved in local heritage research, being recognised in the City of Greater Geraldton Heritage awards in 2013, as a result.
