Snapshot in Time - Town Towers

Published on Monday, 25 November 2024 at 2:04:07 PM

When Town Towers was constructed in the late 70’s it was quite a novelty in Geraldton. It was the closest thing we had to a skyscraper, even if it was only seven stories high. It created another element in the Geraldton CBD, adding many shops and offices into a small area. Local MP’s such as Reg Tubby and Kevin Minson occupied office space on the sixth floor and shops such as Duncan and Johnson Sports and Vox Adeon Furniture and Electronics shared the ground floor with a café, gift shop and even a travel agent and barber shop. For many local children, Town Towers provided their first opportunity to experience a ride in an elevator.

After a much-touted refurbishment by new owners failed to enliven the business district, the building was dormant for a time before receiving a new lease on life with the rarely used fourth floor balcony area becoming home to The Old Man and the Sea bar. The Ground floor now boasts the upmarket Bob’s Bar which specialises in a plethora of different brands of Gin. The upper floors now consist of commercial businesses and forty serviced apartments.
