Snapshot - Motor Cycles Round the Houses

Published on Tuesday, 9 June 2020 at 9:09:21 AM

On Sunday 25 August 1974 several streets were closed off for the “Motor Cycles Round the Houses” Sunshine Festival event. Alongside this sketch Robert Percy Golding made an interesting note about how one of the races was suddenly halted to allow clear access for a vet to attend to a labouring dog.

The 1974 Sunshine Festival Program states “The M.C.R.C of W.A., in conjunction with the Festival Committee and Young Motors Pty. Ltd., co-sponsored by W.D. & H. O. Wills, presents the State’s leading riders in a programme of events that will give thrills aplenty. The course : Urch Street, to Phelp Street, to Chapman Road, then Mark Street to George Road, along to Abrolhos Street and back to Urch Street. Distance 1.8 km. Adults 60c, Children and pensioners 20c.”
