The Fisherman’s Wharf

The Geraldton Fisherman’s Wharf is an iconic feature of our city which is in many locals’ hearts and memories. Many people will have fond recollections of fishing off the wharf or setting crab nets to catch blue manna crabs, also known as blue swimmer crabs. In the 1970’s it was possible to buy enormous dhu fish, snapper, and grouper straight off the wharf, a practice which has recently been reinstated.

Day trips and live-aboard trips to the Houtman Abrolhos Islands are available as well as fishing charters and lobster pot-pulling tours. Every year, the Fisherman’s Wharf is host to events such as the blessing of the fleet, the beach price markets for the shore leave festival, and the flotsam and jetsam collection which sees creative locals make artworks out of refuse from the Abrolhos Islands. The Fisherman’s Wharf is also home to the Geraldton Fisherman’s Cooperative Marine Supply Shop and Barnacles on the Wharf, where fresh local seafood meals are available.
